Assistant Professor Juan José Castellón’s course for the 2024–25 academic year has been featured on Dezeen. “The objective of [“Experimental Models of Space and Structure”] is to establish a foundation for the technology sequence and more broadly [for] the curriculum at large through a fundamental understanding of the reciprocal relationships between space, material, and structure [with] a holistic approach.”
Students will attend theoretical sessions, which will be paired with hands-on experiential learning sessions in which they will craft both physical and digital models to explore concepts detailed in class. These models will be informed by innovative structural and construction principles. Digital technologies will be paired with traditional techniques, forming an alliance of construction methodologies. The use of these construction principles—as translated into physical artifacts—will showcase that they, too, are an integral part of the design process.
