Mauricio Rocha, Founding Principal of TALLER / Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo, joins us for a lecture "Procesos (Processes)" at 5:30pm in Farish Gallery.
Mauricio Rocha (1965) Founding partner of TALLER |Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo|. Graduate of the Faculty of Architecture UNAM Max Cetto workshop, Member of the National Academy of Architecture and Life Jury of the Marcelo Zambrano Scholarship.
Since its foundation, TALLER works aim to develop contemporary architecture, sensitive to the context and to the environment, combining an adequate selection of local materials with state‐of‐ the‐art technology available. The dignity and quality of the spaces is constant in all their projects, always looking for the perfect balance of budget, context, typology, and of course, the user. TALLER develops public and private projects, as well as museography, temporal architecture and art interventions. It ́s work is deeply committed to the academy, from teaching to workshops for undergraduates and specialization courses.
Throughout his career he has received major awards, individually and with the firm, such as gold and silver medals in different National & Internationals Architectural Biennales alike the Latin American and Pan American ones. They received the Emerging Voices recognition granted by the Architectural League of New York to 8 America architectural firms, and they are part of the 30 BSI Swiss Architectural Award finalist architects.
He has been invited as speakers in different cities of Latin America, North America, Europe, and Orient. His projects have been part of numerous exhibitions and architectural Biennales both national and international; some of his projects are part of the collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France.
Among their most representative projects is: School of Plastic Arts and San Pablo Academic and Cultural Center in Oaxaca, San Pablo Market and Public Buildings in Milpa Alta, Center for the blind and visually impaired in Iztapalapa, Library for blind and visually impaired people in Ciudadela, recently the Criminal Courts for oral trials in Pátzcuaro Michoacán, the Deans Building School of Commercial Banking, and Cuatro Caminos Photo Museum in Mexico City. Last year they worked for the exhibition "The Great Animal Orchestra" at the Cartier Foundation in Paris and the Pavilion for Hermès at the furniture fair in Milan.
